From nacho restaurants to Harry Potter cafés, there has been plenty of new entries into the F&B field in 2017 and here’s our roundup of must-try places.

1. Nachoslah

Nachoslah recently opened its doors in The Port, Damansara. They serve all kinds of Mexican dishes for all the Mexican food lovers out there. There’s nachos, tacos, quesadillas, tortillas, canapes, and burritos and you might want to head to Nachoslah early, as the crowd typically comes in around 7pm.

2. Foremula Café

Foremula Café is every minimalist’s dream come true. Walking in, you’d find psychedelic tiles lining the ground and an overall minimalist vibe all around. They even have rose gold cutleries here, making it the perfect place to get some Instagram shots. Some of the foods you can look forward to savouring include Just My Lak-Sa, a laksa capellini pasta and Crabby Patty, which is a deep-fried marinated soft-shell crab.

3. Harry Potter Café

Potterheads, if you didn’t already know, a Harry Potter café recently opened its doors in Malaysia and if you’re planning to head on down to Kota Bharu anytime soon, it should be on your list of places to visit. Here, you’d find Harry Potter books and other titles as well. There are even specific corners where one can pose in Harry Potter-themed robes whilst donning the signature Potter glasses and mufflers.

4. Diver’s Hideout Café

Inspired by the blue sky and ocean, Divers Hideout Café ain’t just a hideout specifically for divers. It’s also for the bibliophiles out there. Yup, there’s a dedicated library section in this restaurant where you can head to chill out after your meal. There’s an option to rent the place for private parties as well. One thing’s for sure, it’s gonna be a “jaws-dropping” experience. 😉

5. Isaac Toast

Isaac Toast & Coffee is a well-known sandwich and toast shop originating from Seoul. It officially opened its doors in 2003 and till this date, still sees long queues at most of its 700+ outlets across South Korea. Malaysia’s very own Isaac Toast & Coffee outlet is at KLIA2. Head on over to try their reasonably-priced sandwiches with flavours like Hot Chicken and Double Cheese Potato.

6. Indobowl

Indobowl is a restaurant which went viral in 2017, offering up Indomee as its main dish, with a side of proteins like grilled chicken chop, beef steak, lamb chop and some fried shrimps. With instant noodles being a common staple for many Malaysians, it definitely struck a chord of nostalgia amongst us. Its after all comfort food at its best.

7. Kind Kones

Kind Kones is a better-for-you dessert alternative in Mont Kiara. With gluten-free and vegan options, those with specific dietary preferences or allergies can opt to try these desserts out. A word of warning though, you might end up enjoying more than one type of dessert because it’s absolutely delish! Our personal recommendations would be the Flourless Sweet Potato Brownie and Spelt Red Velvet Cake.

8. Mitsuyado Seimen

Mitsuyado Seimen’s tagline is “Tokyo’s Best Kept Secret” and their specialty is the dipping noodles, also called Tsukemen. These cold ramen noodles are served in an empty bowl alongside a bowl of hot broth meant for dipping the noodles in. In Japan, these dishes are known to be eaten over the summer season. The Starling Mall introduced its first Mitsuyado Seimen outlet in July this year and if you’ve yet to give this unique dish a try, you ought to do so before 2017’s up.

9. Madhatter Desserts

MadHatter Desserts is the brainchild of Masterchef Asia Season 1’s runnerup, Marcus Low. Try out the array of imaginative desserts like Chocolate and Calamansi cake and Peanut Butter Liquid Centre Cheesetart. One thing’s for sure, this is not just any run-of-the-mill dessert house.

10. Ink Library Café

Ink Library Café is a book café meets library and you could spend hours flicking through magazines and books whilst lounging at this container café. Spend a little time marvelling at the unique bicycle theme of the eatery while you’re here too. They even have upcycled bicycle seats as chairs and other upcycled items decorating the space.
