If you’re the guy to beat at your regular badminton get-togethers, you’re gonna wanna check this out.
Recognised as the world’s leading home appliance brand, Haier returns with the third edition of the Haier Cup—a national tournament where amateur and casual badminton players across Malaysia can take their skills to the next level.

With past winners like Mah Yan Quan and Soong Ru Hui, the latter of whom having gone all the way to winning the Southeast Asia regional finals in the women’s doubles category, the Haier Cup 3.0 is certain to give you the competition and platform to prove your hand at the racquet.
But if you’re still on the fence about cinching this chance, here’s six reasons why you should at least keep your eye on the Haier Cup 3.0.
1. Not just for the Valley-ians
For its third iteration, the Haier Cup 3.0 follows in its predecessors’ footsteps, with it being held in four states across Malaysia: Kuching, Johor, Penang and KL.
Over the next three months, badminton players from each of these regions will be facing off one another at their respective “state challenge” in a single-elimination tournament, where the champions and their runner-ups stand a chance to advance to the national finals held in KL.
The four categories competed are:
- Men’s singles;
- Men’s doubles;
- Women’s doubles; and
- Mixed doubles.
With these categories, the Haier Cup 3.0 gives players from all across the country the chance to take their game out of neighbourhood fields and apartment courts.
2. But not just any player, though
Since their first cup in 2023, Haier has committed to spotlighting amateur and casual badminton players, giving them a platform to show off their skills.
And it’s no different the third time around.
With the tournament only open to players not registered with BAM, Haier ensures that casual players are given the stage, microphone, and spotlight, where they can test their limits fairly against others with the same level of training or support.
So, if you’re the one topping the leaderboards at your badminton seshes, here’s the registration link, where you can sign up at RM70 per singles player, or at RM120 per pair.
3. If you’re the one they go easy on, however
Haier Cup is partnering with Sports We Play, a tournament software that offers real-time updates of the tournament, from live scores to the current scoreboard.
So even if you might not have the prowess or time to sign your name, Sports We Play gives you the chance to support your mates or other club members as they try their hand at getting to the top…
4. Where they could win big
With winnings going up to RM300 per player, badminton enthusiasts stand a chance to make a little money out of their hobby.
All State Challenges | Winner | Runner Ups |
---|---|---|
Men’s Singles | RM300 | RM200 |
Men’s, Women’s & Mixed Doubles | RM500 | RM300 |
But not just that, winners of the state challenge also get some exclusive merchandise from Yonex, another partner of the Haier Cup, and even a Haier water heater worth RM590.
5. Need more appliances?
Following the state challenges, medallists from each region get to progress to the grand finals in KL, where they face-off their interstate competition in a series of best-of-three style matches.
Finally, at the top? Haier appliances worth up to RM4,099! From a side-by-side fridge to a 65-inch TV, stand a chance to win some new Haier appliances, certain to give your home that re-fresh.
6. If you’re here to sate your bloodlust, though
Malaysia’s grand champions will be flown out to Indonesia, with travel and accommodation to expenses borne by Haier, to the regional tournament, the Haier x AQUA Cup.
In 2024, the Malaysian team stood off against teams from the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam, finally emerging victorious in a thrilling final match against the Vietnamese team, and putting their names in the limelight.
