Cocoraw is a brand of handmade chocolates by Malaysian couple See Pin and Michael. Interestingly enough, they came from a background which is totally unrelated to the food business—a career in media planning and technology consulting. Now, the couple focuses solely on the chocolate brand which they have tirelessly built from ground up.

The chocolate truffles by Cocoraw consists of unique flavours such as The Raw 70 (dark), The Milk (milk chocolate), The SGM (Salted Gula Melaka), The IWC (Ipoh White Coffee), The AA (Alcoholic Anonymous) and The Green Thing (green tea).

Each of the standard boxed truffles is approximately 195g, with each truffle cube weighing around 11g. The chocolate prices range between RM30-RM35, which is rather affordable considering how each product is not mass produced, but rather handmade.

The process for these signature soft, “nama”-style chocolate truffles is a six-step one consisting of:-

1. Preparation

2. Melting down the chocolate couvertures

3. Infusing the cream

4. Folding the cream

5. Moulding and setting

6. Hand-cutting and packing

The lean team of 2 has come a long way since their early days when they managed to sell 24 boxes of chocolates in 6 hours, despite slow traffic. In fact, that was all they needed to convince them that there is demand for their chocolates.

Michael shared with Discover KL how they try to come up with a new flavour with a local twist every 2 months. “Come January, you can expect a more regular new flavour release schedule. Maybe a Teh Tarik/Ais variant soon?” he said.

The Cocoraw team has worked with the likes of MilkCow, Michelangelo’s & Bru Café, Kingstreet Café and PickAPekoe in the past, and for their upcoming project, Cocoraw will be partnering with Kingstreet Café once again.
