Imagine being charged RM800 for a 6KM taxi ride.

2 French female  tourists recently experienced that when they were taken from KLCC to Putrajaya. They were charged RM800 for the 6KM ride, when all they had wanted to do was to head to the National Mosque from the KL shopping mall.

The tourists were taken on further routes when the distance between KLCC to the National Mosque is only 6KM.

The taxi driver was claimed to refuse turning on the switch of his fare meter and took the tourists on detours instead. Out of fear, the tourists paid the sum, stated a SPAD spokesman to Harian Metro, when the tourists had later taken the issue to SPAD.

In fact, the estimated fare of various taxis, according to The Malay Mail Online, would only be RM88-RM160 for a distance of 69km to 78km (which is the distance of KLCC to Masjid Negara, with a detour to Putrajaya).
