If you haven’t heard of the name Madeleine before, then it is about time for you to head down to the nearest one, and check it out for yourself (there are 5 outlets in total within Klang Valley).

The journey of the café started out with a culinary student who – no surprises – had a great passion for food. Hence, she begun her culinary journey by obtaining a diploma from the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu. With the techniques she learned from the institution, she planned on sharing her love for food to the people.

The lifestyle café offers good food, exceptional coffee and desserts that are made fresh daily. They have since expanded to several locations within Klang Valley and can now be found in the campus of Sunway University, Sunway Medical Centre, the Digi HQ, Oasis Square, and also Starling Mall.

I recently paid the Oasis Square outlet a visit and it also happens to be the central kitchen of the restaurant.

Its setting is very chilled and laid back with a minimalist, rustic look – perfect for those who want to unwind from a busy day. Tip: Avoid the crowd by dropping by during non-peak hours.

I started off with the Beef Bolognese (RM14). The slow-cooked lean minced beef with tomato stew and herbs was as good as I had expected it to be. The dish is pretty rich but there’s a fine balance between the meat and tomato flavours. I also found the minced beef to be tender.

It was a good start and I moved on to their signature Chicken Bravo (RM16) next. It’s a cajun-marinated roast leg with two sides, mashed potatoes and a fresh salad. Let me start with the sides: the mashed potatoes were extremely velvety, with the right texture.

With each mouthful, you’ll get the richness of the potato and the hint of freshness from the salad, which was good. Now, the roasted chicken leg was relishing. It was tender and juicy, whilst the gravy definitely complemented the chicken. Not too savoury, but just right. Altogether, a good meal to satiate your appetite.

Just as how the previous meal was mind blowing, I expected the same of their Aussie Pie (RM14). It is served two ways: Chicken Mushroom with Mash & Gravy or Steak with Mash & Gravy. I went with the chicken as mushrooms are my guilty pleasure. The dish looked classy as it arrived, and the presentation was definitely not something I had expected. Sitting atop a bed of fluffy mashed potatoes, I enjoyed how the pie has a tender crust and a moist chicken and mushroom filling. I also found the chicken to mushroom ratio to be well-balanced.

To top the whole experience, I managed to get me a slice of their famous Chocolate Royale (RM10). Their Head Pastry Chef achieved the title of Pastry Chef Of The Year 2015 at the World Gourmet Summit in Singapore which vouches for the bistro’s high quality of food and pastries, so I wouldn’t expect anything less than amazing.

The chocolate mousse cake with hazelnut praline certainly highlights the impeccable use of quality ingredients and smart presentation skills. A mouth-watering one, this alone would definitely make me want to come back to Madeleine again.
