A new mobile service provider has joined the fray on January 29 and they go by the name Yoodo.

You might think that Yoodo is yet another ambitious mobile service. However, while Yoodo is relatively new in the world of mobile service providers, their origins can be traced back to one of the three mobile giants in Malaysia: Celcom Axiata.

The team did want to clarify that they operate independently of Celcom.

They claim to be a fully customisable mobile service, but they are not the first. There are others such as tapp and ookyo. However, unlike these two, Yoodo does not need VPN and is compatible with Apple devices.

Yoodo’s customisability works like this:

You get to decide the amount of data, call hours, and texts you can send per month. The total cost will then be tabulated. For example, 5GB data a month will accumulate to RM30, 50 minutes of voice call is RM5, 50 text messages sent makes up RM3, and total that up for a monthly fee of RM38.

Besides that, Yoodo offers a Roam Like Home service where you’ll only need to pay RM10/day to be able to use your plan as it is, in 12 countries worldwide. Think of Yoodo’s plans as somewhat like a Netflix subscription service: if you want it, you can subscribe to it and if not, you can cancel it. In essence, Yoodo allows you freedom in your mobile plan choices.

And once you have customised your personal plan, Yoodo will deliver the SIM card right to your doorstep for free. This will take anywhere between 1-3 days. If you have chosen the express delivery that costs an extra RM15-only available in Klang Valley at the moment-it will be delivered in as short as two hours.

After inserting the SIM card into your mobile device, you can then download the Yoodo app on Google Play or the iOS App Store and activate your plan using facial recognition.

Plus, Yoodo is entirely online, thus you do not have to visit a service centre just to make enquiries or apply changes. Yoodo is a contract-free service provider and that means that you do not have to be tied down with the pre-existing mobile plans that the provider has set for you, and you get to decide your own digital fate.
