Malaysians will stop at nothing to attain FREE, if not CHEAP travels. That is why we’re a sucker for deals, free seats and cheap flights. Imagine the agony we must have felt when through a report by The Sun, we learned that the government will be increasing the airport tax in 2017?

We will be experiencing an exponential increase in the fare, especially with international flights.

According to Says, 1. airport tax fare for domestic flights will increase from RM9 to RM11.

2. As for flights to ASEAN countries, RM35 airport tax fare will be imposed.

3. International flights from KLIA will see an airport tax hike from RM65 increase to RM73.

4. International flights from KLIA2 will see an airport tax hike from RM32 increase to RM73.

The price hike might not affect non-frequent travelers quite as much but for frequent flyers, this addition in airport tax fare will see travelers paying a whole lot more to travel.

An aviation expert told The Sun the reason behind the hike in the fare is to level the playing field. The expert shared, “It is done so that no one airline should have an advantage over another, as they all serve the public at the end of the day. By levelling the playing field, passengers flying the Asean route may see their ticket prices actually go down as it is the most heavily travelled route in the world.”

Where will you be travelling to next year, and how will this airport tax increase impact you? Let us know in the Facebook comments!
