If you’re anything like me, then you would absolutely never even consider joining a marathon. Nope, I would much rather stay in the comfort of the indoors, thanks. But the marathons on this list aren’t just any old boring run. They all have interesting themes that’ll add lots of fun to the running experience, to the point where you could even forget you’re running a marathon! Check out the following upcoming runs in and around KL where you can have a great time while on the run:
Exodus ActX: Love Mover Run
Running a marathon by yourself is hard enough, what about running handcuffed to someone else? Up for the challenge? The Exodus ActX: Love Mover Run will make you do exactly that, where you’ll be handcuffed to your partner/family member/friend for the entire 6.5km run in Putrajaya. If you don’t have anyone to go with, fret not. Just register as an individual participant and find someone to be cuffed to on the day itself! Who knows, you could be making new friends out of this run. The marathon will be held on the 27th of August, so hurry and register if you want to join!

LED Night Run
You definitely won’t be having any trouble seeing in the dark at this marathon. The LED Night Run will be held on the eve of September 17th, at Oasis Square Damansara. The marathon will have a distance of 3km/6km, the choice is yours. Runners will be given LED wristbands, glasses, glow sticks, and shoelaces, and even a specially designed LED finishing medal! Time to shine bright like a diamond, runners!

Batman V Superman Run
Yes, you read that right. There is an actual Batman v Superman-themed marathon right here in KL. Choose your side, will you be joining forces with the shadowy Dark Knight or Metropolis’ own Man of Steel? The run will be taking place on the 18th of September, so you still have time to register! You’ll be running from Padang Merbok, KL, either for a 5km or 10km distance to defeat the bad guys and be victorious. Brownie points if you come dressed as Batman or Superman!

Spartan Race Malaysia
Only join this race if you aren’t scared of getting dirty, sweaty, and achy by the end of it. The annual Spartan Races are a hardcore obstacle course marathon spanning 5-20km, in a surprise location with surprise hurdles in your way. You’ll never know what to expect, and that’s part of the fun! The 5km Sprint race will be happening on the 8th of October, whereas the harder 20km Beast race is on the 9th. If you have kids with you that want to be a Spartan as well, there’s a specially designed Junior Race with a distance of between 0.5km-2km. Prepare yourselves beforehand by working out and exercising, you’ll definitely need it!

The Music Run
Guess who’s back, back again. The Music Run’s back, tell a friend! Happening on the 15th of October, The Music Run at Sepang International Circuit aims to fuel your fire with slamming beats and jams every step of your 5km way. Vote for your favourite tunes to be added to the marathon’s playlist, and the most popular songs will be blasted from the 120-plus speakers lining your path during the run! There will be five different interactive music zones to run through, like rock, pop, old-school, hip-hop, and dance. And what awaits you at the finish line, you may ask? Nothing less than a full-on music festival, with world-class DJs, live bands, and lots of dancing. Sounds like it’s gonna be a blast!

Great Eastern Bubble Dash
For some foamy fun on your marathon run, register for Great Eastern’s 5km Bubble Dash! It will be held on the 23rd of October at Dataran Merdeka, and runners have to pass through specified ‘Foam Zones’ to be blasted with music, foam and coloured bubbles. The run doesn’t have an age limit, so it’ll be tons of fun for people of any age! Make sure to be careful, and don’t slip on the bubbles!

Run For Your Lives Malaysia
Dare to make a run for your life this November? Run For Your Lives is back again, this time with even more thrills and zombies lurking around every corner of your run. Taman Botani, Putrajaya is the chosen contamination zone this 12th of November, so pre-register if you’re prepared to be infected. Choose your role, are you a running survivor or a haunting zombie? U We Glow Fun Run
Another ‘glow-in-the-dark’-themed run for you, the U We Glow Fun Run will be held at Stadium Shah Alam on the 10th of December. This is the second installment of this 5km run, after it’s highly successful first iteration last year. Runners will be given all kinds of glowy accessories to make sure nobody can miss you in the dark, like glow sticks, finger lights, and UV paint for your face and body! Runners are also encouraged to dress up as wackily as you want, and you’re welcome to even wear your pyjamas if you so pleased. A bunch of celebrities will be making appearances there as well, so don’t miss out!

Inflatable Amazing Run 2017
Ever wanted to be in an episode of Wipeout? Well this is as close as you’re gonna get. The Inflatable Amazing Run 2017 is a non-competitive, fun run that will put different inflatable obstacles in your way to the finish line. The 5km run in Kepong Metropolitan Park next February will have runners slipping, sliding, and running their way to the festival zone that awaits past the finish line, where you’ll be able to wind down, chill, and eat your way through the multiple food trucks and stalls there. Gather your friends and family to sign up!
