Since its grand opening in the final quarter of 2017, Grub By Ahong & Friends has gained its own following.

The humble eatery is run by chef and founder, Ngui Yeang Hong. Fondly known as Ahong, the chef might be a familiar face. He was after all on MasterChef Malaysia and placed runnerup in the competition.

It’s interesting to see how the Sarawakian, who graduated with an architecture degree, opted to make the kitchen his workplace instead.

The self-taught chef now whips up Western meals with an Asian influence at his restaurant in Seksyen 17.

There’s the Chicken Char Siew Rice Bowl which consists of Grilled Chicken Char Siew, Egg, Stewed Vegetables, Mesclun Salad and Lemoin Rice.

Then, there’s also the Lamb and Clams which is a Pan-Fried Lamb Loin with Shellfish Broth, Clams, Sourdough Bread and Ramen.

What’s cool about this restaurant is the fact that they do not charge a corkage fee when you belanja Ahong a glass of your favourite bubbly. That way, you can bring your own booze and clink glasses with the chef who painstakingly prepared your meal.

Grub By Ahong’s menu currently consists of 30 odd items and one that diners can anticipate soon is the Nasi Lemak Foie Gras, another classic example of East meets West.

Ahong hinted about the new dish on Grub by Ahong’s Instagram page.

Meanwhile, opt to savour Grub By Ahong & Friends’ bestsellers including cakes like Cendol Cake Cake (Caramel Hive Sponge with Wild Honey and Ice Cream) and Hummingbird Cake (Banana Cake with Pineapple).
