Nestled in the heart of Kota Damansara, there lies a shop that specialises in chocolates which will make you go “Wah, so pretty”. Ballotin Chocolate is the name of this chocolatier and you can definitely expect each chocolate bon bon to have a colourful dip-dye aesthetic.
The term ‘bon bons’ stems from the French word “bon”, which means “good”. Thus, these chocolates certainly deserve the name bon bons, as it is double the goodness or typical grocery store desserts. These has been elevated to a class of their own and there is a high level of workmanship behind every perfectly shaped bon bon. This would justify the price of each chocolate being priced at RM6.
In order to create these chocolates, there are 4 steps involved: colouring, shelling, filling and capping.
Colouring is the first step in which each bon bon mould is carefully hand-painted so as to give it the colourful dip-dye look. Oil-based and powder colouring is used in this step. Shelling is the next process and the chocolates will have any of the 4 flavours: dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate and Dulcey chocolate.
After each bon bon gets its shell, they get their filling done as well. The filling is of a ganache type and it ranges between caramel, jelly and gianduja.”
Once filled, the team would cap the bottom of the bon bons with chocolate and allow it to set before taking it out from the mould.
The bon bons take around 2-4 days to make. Some fillings take more time depending on the number of layers to the chocolate.
Currently, Ballotin Chocolate has over 19 flavours such as Berriolette (blueberry and raspberry caramel with a hint of viola flower), Napoleon (smooth gianduja ganache with hazelnut), Uji Raspberry (Uji matcha ganache with raspberry jelly) and Vanilberry (Vanilla-infused ganache with strawberry jelly).
They even have a Teh Tarik ganache with Dulcey shells! Depending on the season, Ballotin will also release more local flavours.
To order the chocolates, customers can purchase by online order through Facebook. The prices of each chocolate are RM6. A small box (6 pieces) is RM36, a medium box (12 pieces) is RM66 while a large box (24 pieces) is RM126.
For Valentine’s Day, Ballotin Chocolate has released a 12-piece chocolate box for RM268.
