A Facebook page named KL Online recently posted an image of the Zoo Negara entrance fee. In the image, the entrance fee displayed for adults is RM44. The fee for children aged 3-12 is RM16 and the fare for senior citizens is RM21.

Despite the poor state of economy and rising cost of living, netizens shared their thoughts on why the fee could be pricey.

One social media user shared: “The medical expenses and food for animals is far more expensive than that of humans. If you feel that it is expensive, try volunteering at Zoo Negara because it is the only zoo in Malaysia where we can volunteer for free.”

Another Facebook user noted: “It’s not cheap to rare animals. An elephant eats almost 100kg a day. A tiger eats 10-20kg of meat a day. And what about the fee and expenses for doctors and helpers?”

Malaysians were sharing their two cents worth on how they would gladly pay the fee too.

One user stated: “It’s expensive but we’re satisfied. The zoo is large and it is worth it with the price of the ticket. If you feel that it is expensive, wait 3-4 years to visit the place once.”
