This place is about as Instagrammable as it gets when it comes to desserts, with their acclaimed vanilla soufflé being the talk of the town, both for its yumminess and its presentation. Served with your choice of orange or osmanthus maple syrup, and a scoop of tangy grapefruit sorbet, the light and fluffy dessert has people flocking to Wild Sheep Chase’s doors. Even though their menu is quite limited, they do have other desserts including their waffles with osmanthus syrup and Earl Grey cream, or their gooey matcha lava cake, both pretty as a picture as well. Make sure to avoid coming during peak hours on the weekends, as this place usually attracts a crowd.

Xiao by Crustz, PJ

This newly opened labour of love in Section 17, Petaling Jaya pays homage to exquisite French desserts, and owner Xiao-Ly does not disappoint in that respect. Her pastries are crafted to perfection, and the finished dish looks as good as it tastes. Notable desserts include Le Cerf, a crispy, crumbly base topped with hazelnut daquoise, chocolate moelleux, chocolate Chantilly cream, and the finishing touch of a deer-shaped chocolate thin, or La Vie En Rose, a pretty pink concoction of shortbread crust, choux pastry filled with raspberry jam, all held together with rose chantilly cream and topped with a rose petal.

Not only are the desserts nice to look at, the whole café is too. With its minimalistic, modern design and intimate seating, this is the perfect place to impress that special someone in your life. However, do note that Xiao by Crustz will rotate their menu every so often, so be sure to visit quick if you want to try out their current range of desserts!

Thirty8 is located on (of course) the 38th floor of the Grand Hyatt, with a sweeping, 360-degree view of KL that is especially breathtaking at night. They serve sumptuous Western and Asian dishes, but one of their main attractions is the Thirty8 Signature Cake. A towering mass of layered chocolate cake, served with house-made caramelized banana ice cream as well as a generous pouring of decadent caramel sauce, and shrouded in a mysterious white vapour, it’s enough to appeal to anyone both visually and palatably. They also have myriad other desserts on the menu, including a molten chocolate cake, nutty gianduja crepe, as well as various soft serve ice cream dishes to appeal to anyone with a sweet tooth. Thirty8 is a must-go if you’re a lover of gorgeous sweet treats!

Softcore specializes in, you guessed it, molten lava cakes with soft, melty cores! This cheekily-named café attracts hordes of visitors, all wanting to slice their fork through light, fluffy cakes to see the gush of warm batter flooding their plate. Softcore has a variety of flavours of lava cake to choose from, fan-favourites include their rich salted egg yolk, velvety dark chocolate, and fresh matcha green tea.

Their plating is noteworthy as well, with all lava cakes accompanied by a scoop of homemade ice cream and several customized toppings to suit each individual cake. For example, the salted egg yolk cake is sprinkled with cornflakes, rice puffs, and curry leaves (!), while the white chocolate and passion fruit cake comes with a berry coulis and a scattering of blueberries. Don’t call yourself a fan of lava cakes if you haven’t been to Softcore!

Tiny Temptress Artisan Patisserie, Sri Petaling

This little café needs no introduction, already having made a name for itself through its online shop since 2013, and now finally expanding to a physical store, just opened in the past couple months. You would instantly recognize their specialty macarons, crafted to perfection in pleasing pastels and cute decor. People have been raving about their salted egg yolk macarons, although expensive at RM10 a piece, it’s definitely something worth trying.

Other popular flavours include the teddy bear-shaped chocolate, sweet passion fruit, and fragrant lavender. Besides macarons, they also have an array of other desserts, like Bear Necessity, oolong mousse and passionfruit ganache over a biscuit base, all hidden within an adorable bear-shaped chocolate mold, and L’Affection, a symphony of lychee cream, strawberry gelee, chocolate glaze, almond joconde sponge, on a biscuit base. Not to mention their ridiculously pretty interior design and detailing, this is probably the most Instagram-worthy place on this list.

Haraju-Cube, Empire Damansara

This bright, tiny café is the authority in Japanese honey toast boxes, serving up over 10 kinds of the sweet, Pandora’s boxes of toasted bread cubes. Their extravagant presentation is part of the attraction people seem to have to this café, with a large, hollow cube of bread filled with smaller, soft French Toast bits, overflowing with swaths of whipped cream, melting scoops of ice cream, fresh cut fruits, and plenty of sauce to go around. Haraju-Cube isn’t playing games.

Of course, not only do these dishes look good, they have the taste to match. The fluffy toast pieces on the inside pair perfectly with the assortment of toppings you can choose from, like banana and chocolate, fruits, caramel and honey, red bean and matcha, and more. But make sure you bring a friend or two with you, because the huge portions will be difficult to finish, even though it’s so good!

The Crusty Nest, Subang

This café specializes in everything to do with pies, and make both sweet and savoury varieties. While their meat pies and Piezza (a cross between a pie and a pizza) are both popular choices, their desserts are quite worthy of mention as well. Their rich chocolate tart, lemon tart with a zing, fresh fruit tarts and soft apple crumble have all been received with open arms from customers, and their ‘wedding cheesecake’ is sinfully delicious, with notes of citrus and fruit infused into the almost ice cream-like cake. If you like pies, try out the ones from The Crusty Nest, you might fall in love!

If you’re a fan of pancakes and The Wizard of Oz, what are you still doing here and why aren’t you at Wicked Pancake Parlour?? This pancake joint makes all kinds of pancakes to suit all tastebuds, from sweet stacks to savoury choices, so you’ll definitely find something to love. Another unique thing they do is putting a flapjack twist on local delicacies, like their apam balik pancakes with sweet corn, Hawaiian coconut, gula Melaka, and coconut ice cream, or green pandan pancakes topped with caramelized jackfruit slices, salted caramel ice cream and gula Melaka sauce, both of which are, unsurprisingly, fan favourites.

Also available are chocolate pancakes with the whole shebang of toppings (nuts, chocolate shavings, caramelized beef bacon (!), berries, and ice cream) or It’s A Little Bit Nutty, a fusion of pancakes, peanut butter, sea salt, bananas, and salted caramel ice cream. If you’re wondering how this place relates to The Wizard of Oz, this café is situated on The Yellow Brick Road (a different café under the same management), and was designed to emulate a witch’s den.
