Most 16-year olds would be going through their adolescent years thinking about their crushes and struggling to finish their homework on time, but Penang lass, Lee Pei Ling, who goes by her stage name Jeryl Lee is already competing in Sing China, a prestigious China reality competition show. Sing China is pretty much like The Voice, and it pits contestants all around Asia against one another.

She got the attention from the panel of judges inclusive of Jay Chou when she sung the tune “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten. Since then, she had defeated all odds, even that of her young age, to make it to where she is tonight.

Tonight, Jeryl Lee stood on the Beijing National stadium, also known as the Bird’s Nest, as the final six competitors. Though Jeryl certainly gave it her all, the Penangite did not manage to be crowned champion at the end of the competition.

“I’d like to thank my family and friends”, Jeryl said nonetheless, as her parting words, with a smile on her face.

Despite not placing first, Jeryl proved to Malaysians everywhere that age is but only a number and we should never ever limit ourselves. The fresh-faced teen went from strength to strength through each week and as the youngest contestant in the competition showcased professionalism and passion throughout every episode.

She may not have won Sing China but she has definitely put Malaysia on the map as a nation that is able to produce talent and tenacity. Most importantly, tonight, Jeryl won the hearts of Malaysians. Discover KL wishes Jeryl all the success that will definitely come her way!
