Hours on end of waiting at the immigration office, and numerous applicants waiting with a newspaper or magazine in hand. That is the typical sight to behold when getting one’s passport renewed in Malaysia. It is not necessarily a tedious process, but it is unfortunately one which requires setting aside time for.

As such, it was a pleasant surprise when netizens found out that they could potentially do away with the process, come September 1.

4 states and 2 Urban Transformation Centres (UTC) have been selected for the programme, known as the ‘MyOnline Passport’ system. The service will soon be available in the immigration offices in Pahang, Sarawak, Penang and Putrajaya, as well as 2 UTCs – Pudu Sentral, KL, and Galleria@Kotaraya, Johor.

The system is introduced as a way to enable people the convenience of renewing their passport online, and making the updating of details, uploading of photographs as well as payment via debit or credit, accessible online. After all of this has been performed, applicants can then proceed to pick their passport up at any of the counters where the service applies.

What this spells for passport applicants is the convenience of having their passport renewed with ease in the near future. It also saves us the hassle, and we can finally wave goodbye to waiting in line for an extended period of time for our passport! What’s next to hope for, is more states to gain this access, so more travelers will be granted this convenience too! After all, who doesn’t like to travel with ease?
