1. REKINDLE

Located in SS2, Rekindle gives the ‘feels’ of a quaint cottage with mismatched wooden furniture.. There’s even a bean bag corner for cozy get-togethers, so you can enjoy your casual chit-chats with smooth coffee and of course, a gorgeous slice of Red Velvet cake! The Red Velvet here is said to be one of the best in PJ and KL; densely moist with a generous amount of cream cheese frosting on top and in between its majestic layers. Even with its distracting red tone, this cake has a balanced flavour of cocoa within and goes well with coffee. Rekindle tends to get crowded at peak hours on certain days, so be sure to find a suitable time to pop in.

I’m gonna cheat on this one—to seek this Red Velvet is to wander a little off the outskirts of Petaling Jaya. There you’ll discover Souka on the edge of SS15, Subang—simplistic with laid back lounging cushions and stools. This specialised bake shop has some pretty cool vintage décor and even whisks surrounding the light bulbs. What a place to enjoy some good desserts and drinks!

Their Red Velvets are such a crowd pleaser. You can expect a beautiful dark red hue with heavenly cocoa flavours, rich cream cheese frosting and the fluffy yet dense texture. A slice is more than enough to fulfil your Red Velvet cravings but you’ll be looking forward to come back again and again because once is never enough.

5. PLAN B

The B.I.G Group is known to present a series of excellent eateries, and Plan B is just another cherry on top of the icing. Specifically designed as a creative space for people to eat, linger and to get inspired, it embodies a cultural venue that serves artisan coffee and fusion cooking. Through Plan B, B.I.G Group has brought the New York-meets-Aussie deli scene to our Malaysian dining experience.

Among its gorgeous baked goods lies the much-prided Red Velvet. Made for the chocolate biased fans, it is a stand out from the usual sea of Red Velvets for having melted chocolate ganache instead of cream cheese layered in between the deep red cake. It’s still coated with a delicious cream cheese frosting and you’ll taste its significant chocolatey flavour with each fluffy, sweet mouthful. Definitely a must try for all chocolate cake lovers.
