Sure, having a cup of deliciously brewed coffee with the perfect warmth and optimum flavor sounds heavenly to most coffee lovers out there. But it’s even better when there’s cool coffee art floating on your drink, don’t you think? The trend of adding artistic flair to fresh brews has been booming over the past few years, and most of us already have an idea of the front-runners for good coffee art in KL. This list compiles the most loved places to get beautiful coffee art, perfect for your Instagram feed:

Coffee Stain by Joseph, Publika

With ‘coffee’ in their name, you’ll know that Coffee Stain will definitely take their coffee brewing seriously. And they do, but besides knowing their coffee inside out, they can also do some mean 3D latte art on your drinks! Unlike other places, you aren’t only limited to having art on your coffee; you can even have a foam cat popping out of your iced chocolate (though some have said it tastes better with a hot drink). Avoid this place on peak hours and weekends though, as it tends to get crowded. Or, drop by their Fahrenheit 88 outlet instead, it’s not as busy there!

Address: Solaris Dutamas (D4-G3-01), 50480 Kuala Lumpur

Hours: 8am-11pm daily, closed on Wednesdays

Bookmark Coffee is a small, cozy coffee shop in Taman Connaught, but don’t underestimate their coffee art skills! Besides doing the usual free-pour hearts and floral designs, their skilled barista can also take requests on pretty much anything you want in your cup, from popular cartoon characters, cute animals, to even pictures of your loved ones! You do have to wait quite a while for your masterpiece to be served to you, but many have said it’s totally worth it!

IsMe Beauty and Café, Nu Sentral

I didn’t know that café-cum-beauty stores were a thing, but apparently they are! IsMe in Nu Sentral is one of them, and besides being a fully-functioning café, they also sell beauty products from the USA and Korea within the same premises. They serve food in accordance with their healthy eating concept, because after all, you are what you eat!

They also make several interesting coffee drinks, using their own house blend. One of their drinks is their signature IsMe coffee, with an adorable bear face on top. You’ll feel like you can’t bear (lol) to ruin its cute face by drinking it! Besides that, they also do the usual flower and heart shaped designs on their drinks, and they do it pretty well. If you want to eat somewhere unique, this is definitely a place to check out!

Address: Level Concourse Unit No. 18 & 19, Nu Sentral, No. 201 Jalan Tun Sambanthan, 50470 Kuala Lumpur.

This coffee joint is well-known for their adorable 3D coffee art (no thanks to Instagram, of course). From cats bathing in your coffee to bears floating serenely in your cup, it’s no wonder that people flock to this café by the dozens. As with most places that do coffee art, expect to wait for your drink, and that it would have cooled down considerably by the time it reaches your table. Don’t let that hold you back from ordering one of these cute works of art though!

Where Coffee Amo is known for their 3D coffee art, LewisGene has been making waves for their symmetrical, spider web-like designs that are captivating to the eye. The art looks painstakingly made, and you’ll wonder how the baristas could accomplish such a feat on a little cup of coffee! The fun, colourful ambience of the café also adds to your drinking experience. If you prefer a little more sophistication over cutesy creatures in your coffee, this place is definitely for you.

MACE by Coffee Chemistry Signature, Damansara Uptown

The original Coffee Chemistry Signature in Subang had already made waves with their specialty 3D coffee art, and they haven’t lost that skill at MACE. You can request all sorts of cool creatures and characters to pop put of your coffee cups, and they’ll fulfill your desires using milky foam. If having an excess of foam atop your drinks isn’t for you, you can also ask for regular 2D art, which is just as pleasing to the eye! And if coffee isn’t your jam, don’t fret, for you can get green tea lattes with bubbly creatures on top too! And don’t worry about the quality of the coffee served there, for they use one of the best coffee beans you can get, roasted by Graffeo in Singapore.

Address: 42, Jalan SS 21/58, Damansara Uptown, 47400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Hours: 11am-10.30pm on Sun-Thurs, 11am-11pm on Fri-Sat

If you want some fun activities along with your artfully made coffee, Hobby N Coffee is a place you should check out. Not only do they serve up cups of coffee with cute, foamy characters over top them, you can sip away while dominating a board game with your friends (they’re free to play for patrons!). Hobby N Coffee even organize latte art classes, so you can try your hand in creating your very own arty cuppa! Who knows, you might find out that you’re handy with that espresso machine!
