During our recent review at Greyhound Café, we were ushered to our seats outdoors and the refreshing evening breeze greeted us about the same time as the waiters did.

We’d 10/10 recommend sitting outdoors—the vibe is completely different and there was even an ongoing fountain performance across from us at The Gardens mall.

With the accompanying Disney music, it felt almost as if we had just been transported to Disneyland—a Thai Disneyland.

As we were swaying to the music, we were served with the Complicated Noodles (RM26). It’s honestly not complicated at all but do wash your hands prior to handling the dish which is best prepared by hand.

First, take a leaf of iceberg lettuce and fold in a thin slice of sheet noodle. Then, add in a spoonful of minced chicken and add as much chilli sauce as you like. For someone who doesn’t have a high spice tolerance, I’d suggest 1 small spoonful.

I liked how the iceberg lettuce was fresh enough to have that nice crunch when you bite into it and you can barely taste the noodle because it is sliced paper thin.

The Chicken Wings (RM18) were not as crunchy as I hoped it to be but it’s definitely a nice snack to have whilst you await your main dish. It is bite-sized goodness that isn’t too greasy but does require a bit of help from the chilli sauce. Together though, it’s a match-made in Thai heaven.

The Spicy Spaghetti Thai Style (RM29), like its name suggests, is crazy spicy. Unfortunately, that will always be how I remember the dish. But I did like how the spaghetti was al dente. If you’re craving something hearty and with a spicy kick, you would thoroughly enjoy this one.

You can’t visit a Thai restaurant and not have their signature Phad Thai (RM27). We had unrealistically high hopes for it and were crushed when it wasn’t up to the standard that we had in our mind. But then again, the phad thai standard that we had was of a roadside stall in Thailand and that’s clearly just a whole other level.

Greyhound’s phad thai featured soft melt-in-the-mouth noodles and there’s quite a generous amount of egg and prawn with the noodles. Not one that you would remember but still a phad thai worth having, simply for the amount of fresh prawns in the dish.

The Minced Chicken with Sweet Basil Hot Chillies (RM27) was next. It was spicy but I found myself going back for more mouthfuls of it. The aromatic basil leafs did it for me.

As much as the egg is the runny sort and looks ah-ma-zing, it’s just pure aesthetics as it tastes like a regular sunny side up. Sorry to burst your bubble. 😛

We saved the best for last. It’s the Fusillli Tom Yam (RM38) and till this day, I still salivate at the thought of it.

Because the seafood is cooked in with the pasta, the seafood flavour blends in seamlessly with the sauce and it’s super aromatic. It’s the kind of pasta you’d find yourself closing your eyes to and doing a little happy dance.

Drinks-wise, we managed to try 4 different kinds.

The Iced Lemon Tea is that extra friend that everyone has. Served in 2 separate glasses, one half is of cubes of iced lemon tea and the other half is of chilled lemon tea and they’re meant to be mixed together. My only question is: is it honestly necessary? It’s fancy sure, but it honestly just tastes like regular mamak iced lemon tea. This is definitely not one of Greyhound’s stronger suits.

Much like the Nom Yen Granita (RM16), it’s basically just fancy air bandung—way too sweet and milky. However, if you fancy milky drinks, you might enjoy this one.

There’s nothing much to shout about with Greyhound’s Thai Iced Tea with Milk (RM12). It’s definitely one of the better Thai iced teas I’ve ever had but it’s slightly too sweet for my liking. That being said, this goes really well with the spicy dishes that we had.

While it seemed like we were heading on a downward spiral with Greyhound’s beverages, we hit a high note with the Passion Fashion (RM16). It’s not too sour but is very refreshing and the lime taste is really strong…in a good way.

We made room for desserts and started off with the Young Coconut Crepe Cake (RM22). It’s really light and creamy and full of coconut bits—fresh coconut bits at that. It’s a Thai fusion dessert done right.

The presentation of the Sea Salt Caramel Chocolate with Vanilla Cream (RM22) was on point—down to the sea salt presentation and brush of chocolate at the edge of the platter, and of course, the Hershey-shaped caramel bits on the cake.

Note: don’t take too much sea salt with each bite as it’s going to be way too salty—go figure. I had too much salt with my first bite and it ruined the experience. However, the caramel and chocolate works like magic together and though I’m not much of a fan of it, this one did it for me.

We ended our heavy meal with the DIY Waffles (RM31). Though we were crazy full, we stuffed ourselves silly with this. The waffle is firm but not too dense and the resulting flavour is light and airy.

Of the five dips of peanut butter, chocolate, berry and strawberry & almonds, I enjoyed the chocolate the most. It’s rich and pairs well with the waffle. Classic at its best.

The next time you drop by Greyhound, we’d suggest having the Phad Thai, Tom Yam Fusilli and for desserts, theSea Salt Caramel Chocolate with Vanilla Cream.
