Savoury birthday cakes aren’t exactly a new trend.

It all started with the social media hype of placing burgers together in the formation of a cake, complete with a lit candle in the middle.

In my opinion, it’s a totally genius idea because clearly not everyone’s a fan of desserts. But what’s even smarter is turning siew yoke into a “birthday cake”.

One restaurant in KL is spearheading the idea with their porky “birthday cake” which is perfect for pork-loving Malaysians.

While I wouldn’t personally consider it a birthday cake per se, but rather a 3-tier siew yoke dish, it’s beginning to gain popularity amongst pork lovers as a birthday cake alternative.

These siew yoke birthday cakes are currently available at Elsie’s Kitchen By WanEli.

Ideal for pork lovers, you can enjoy your slice of “cake” with some sambal sauce on the side. The combination of a crispy layer of charred pork skin, accompanied by a juicy layer of pork sounds just like heaven with each bite.

If you’re planning on celebrating your birthday at Elsie’s Kitchen By WanEli anytime soon, be sure to call in and reserve your siew yoke birthday cake at least 2 days in advance.

Wan of Elsie’s Kitchen mentioned to DiscoverKL that each cake is priced at RM18/100g and a 3-tiered cake weighing about 500g will cost about RM90. It can feed 2-3 big eaters and comes with sambal sauce for dipping.

Besides the siew yoke birthday cake, you can also enjoy other Western favourites like the Mushroom Aglio Olio and Chicken Chop.
