Malls all across Klang Valley have started decking the halls with boughs and holly – fa la la la la la la la la! And well, who are we to ignore it when everywhere we go, we see the beautiful decorations and ornaments to remind us that Yuletide is nigh?
Perhaps for this one month, we ought to let it go—get it—and celebrate the final celebration of the year before the new year comes with their inevitably headache inducing challenges.
Let’s see what several malls in Klang Valley have done to their space in order to bring about Christmas cheer to the hearts of their visitors.
1. The Gardens Mall
They call it Dreams of a White Christmas, and I think that says it all. They have set up winter-themed corridors that are both green and white, fully displaying the authenticity of a white Christmas where not everything is necessarily covered in snow. While you walk along the corridors and explore the vendors, you can also take in the decorations that include fairytale creatures like pixies, elves, and fairies. Twice a day, there will a snow show as snow sprinkles down and creates a more authentic white Christmas for everyone.
2. Paradigm Mall
A little town has opened up in Paradigm Mall just for the Christmas occasion, and it is suitably called ‘Christmasville’. They have set up miniature buildings signifying town halls, train stations, a clock tower, Christmas trees, and canopies of shop lots. Visitors can even take a ride on the train—it’s not fake—or find company in the giant bears lying around the place.
3. 1 Utama
Remember when we vaguely talked about 1 Utama’s yet-to-be-completed Christmas decorations? Well, it is now! You’d think they’ve reached new heights with their gigantic snowmen and gigantic trees and the unforgettably massive moon behind a bridge, but they’ve also challenged themselves and successfully pulled off fluffy clouds clogged with big gift boxes. Kids can also have a chance to join in the fun at the Christmas-themed playground with the slippery slides and the ball pit.
4. Sunway Putra Mall
Take a step in, and it’s like you’re looking at an unconventional and yet also harmonious blend of Diagon Alley and Disneyland. There’s a miniature tower, though large enough for Santa Claus to stand on, and there are also miniature buildings that host vendors and exhibitions. While it’s not particularly winter-themed, they have obviously adopted the Christmas festive vibes and sprinkled the magic all over with their decorations.
5. Quill City Mall
This mall has incorporated the upcoming festivities in the promotion of the upcoming movie about a…bull named Ferdinand. Therefore, patrons can see a lot of Ferdinand-esque decorations while they are there, but also melded with Christmas decorations. Even the name of the mall decoration itself is rather telling: UnBULLievable Christmas.
6. Sunway Velocity Mall
Can you believe that it has been one year since Sunway Velocity Mall opened up for visitors? And what better way to celebrate their first anniversary than on Christmas? Instead of utilising the usual snowy environment that typical Christmas decorations tend to do, this mall makes up for it by inputting cheerful and adorable trinkets and ornaments, gateways and dolls, and of course, trees!
7. IOI City Mall
There are winter wonderlands, there are bulls, and there are towns, but there still has yet to be a mythical wonderland—until IOI City Mall. At this mall, you can swing on flowery swing sets, make your way down slides, and mess with the “magical mirrors”. Around you, there will be faux plants and LED-lit spores, adding on to the Alice-In-Wonderland vibe that surrounds it.
8. Sunway Pyramid
This year, Sunway Pyramid transforms into a Tudor-esque playground, complete with Tudorian cutouts, Tudorian structures, huge Christmas trees decorated with Tudorian ornaments, and a waterfall in the middle of the entire area.
9. Mid Valley Megamall
Mid Valley Megamall has transformed into an old England area for Christmas and there are ancient streetlamps to guide our way, shopfronts adorned with old school signs, old red postboxes, and even one of those red choo-choo trains! Don’t forget to snap a picture here to commemorate the season.
10. Suria KLCC
When one of the many decorations in store is the tallest Christmas tree replica ever recorded in the Malaysia’s Book of Records, you know that they have already won the competition. It doesn’t matter if it is night or day, the tree still manages to look as majestic as ever. And if you think that this tree alone would suffice, wait until you look inside. You will find a giant wooden cabin that you can actually enter. Outside, a tree; inside, a woodland fairytale.
