There are museums and art shows to celebrate art, and then there is the Lightbox that puts a unique twist to the celebration of art. As a matter of fact, it might even be the best observance of local artworks in Malaysia.

While museums and art shows can help acquire attention to local artists’ names by simply displaying artworks, it can get somewhat boring and dull. But Lightbox doesn’t just display artworks; they make it interactive, fun, and bright for the audience.

They work like this: random roadshows in random locations around KL, like a man-made Aurora Borealis in Sungai Buloh or a small marketplace illuminated by the most unique of light art festivals in a small back alley. It has gotten so popular that some of their arts have been featured in the Amsterdam Light Festival this year!

However, from now until January 1st 2018, they will be putting on a full-out festival, exhibiting all kinds of light art for everyone to see. They call it Between The City & Stars.

What can you expect to see at this light art festival?

  1. City Gazing: The artists behind the City Gazing: Dutch design collective of VOUW consists of Justus Bruns and Mingus Vogel. They took half a year to put it together to depict a KL map in the air, and the audience can take their time to pinpoint which is where – watch out for your neck though.
  2. Aurora Borealis: Every hour, there will be a show of the 5-star worthy model of the Aurora borealis, allowing the spectators to have at least an inkling of what it’s like to watch the Northern lights without actually heading over to Norway.
  3. Bricklane: The floor is lava! Except you’re gonna have to lose to be able to take in the majestic aura of it all; it’s as if there’s something new wherever you step, because the artworks are displayed on individual bricks on the floor.
  4. Dreamscape: This is where the stars come in. The collaboration work of a Dutch artist and a Portugal artist, you’ll feel as if you’ve walked into a fantasy world when you enter the room.
  5. Secret Rendezvous: If you’re there with a partner, visit this little place to try and keep your love for as long as possible. Write a letter. Attach a padlock. Promise a forever.
  6. LED Light Swing: Everyone has a child deep within them, and Lightbox provides an opportunity for you to let your inner child flourish with their lighted swing sets!
