The MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang line officially opened earlier this week, with 31 brand new stops from Sungai Buloh up till Kajang. What does this spell for KL-ites? More reason to head out and café hop, that’s what!

With the 50% discount for all MRT rides from now till Merdeka Day 2017, it’s the perfect excuse to try out the new MRT line. We’ve rounded up some of the best makan places that are less than a 10-minute walk from the major stations. Let the food journey begin!

1. Restaurant Loong Kee Bak Kut Teh

Like its name suggests, Loong Kee Bak Kut Teh specialises in bak kut teh, including soupy and dry versions. This place is packed by noon, even on weekdays. If you want to secure a spot, it’s best to head in slightly earlier. Order up a plate (or two) of white rice and enjoy the juicy pork cuts mixed in with a sweet-savoury soup/sauce that’ll leave you wanting for more.

2. Kuppi & Sekut Caffé

When at Kuppi & Sekut, the one thing that should be on your must-order list is what else but some “kuppi” (coffee). The menu consists of contemporary twists on fusion favourites and it includes burgers and sandwiches. The Lamb Cheese Steak at Kuppi & Sekut comes with a cheesy steak tucked into a hot dog bun and served with a side of crinkle cut fries. Order up a cup of coffee while you’re here too.

3. Rimba & Rusa by Wondermilk

Rimba & Rusa goes by the motto, “Everyday is Sunday” and it’s apt, considering how dining here, you’d tend to want to spend time chilling with loved ones, as if it’s a long weekend. Its clean, minimalistic appeal coupled with brunch fare is enough of a draw factor but if you need even more reason to visit, it’s also less than a 5-minute walk from the Surian MRT station too.

4. Fuel Shack

Fuel Shack’s motto is “Come hungry, leave happy” and their aim is to transform mindsets that fast food equates to unhealthy meals. In fact, their burger patties are made using only 100% grass-fed Australian beef and lamb and the Original Shack burger features 150g of Australian beef and fresh lettuce and tomato from Cameron Highlands.

5. Signature by the Hill

Signature by the Hill is a place you go to for a meal but you’ll stay for the view too. Overlooking the Bandar Utama skyline, this posh eatery is also just a 5-minute walk from the Bandar Utama MRT station. Signature by the Hill refreshes their menu every few months and their latest menu includes Chicken Rice Balls and Duck Wraps.

6. Misicafé TTDI

This restaurant is one of TTDI’s latest eateries and it is a casual Asian Fusion restaurant. It is also open for 18 hours a day and only closes between 3am-7am for cleanup. Some of the meals served on their menu includes Swedish Meatballs, Mee Rebus Tulang Johor, Nasi Impit Kuah Kacang and Lempeng with Sambal Bilis.

7. Essence Café

If you’re looking to grab a bite upon arriving at the Phileo Damansara station, a short 6-minute walk will take you to Essence Café. Enjoy Western and Asian cuisine while you’re here. The dishes at Essence are also pretty affordable as you’ll be able to enjoy a Breakfast set or a plate of nasi goreng for under RM11.

8. The Good Co Café

The Good Co’s food is prepared fresh daily and it consists of all-natural ingredients sans nasty preservatives and artificial flavourings. They also create Instagram-worthy açaí bowls here. Give your peers a little “health-goals” motivation with dessert bowls that are fresh, nutritious and better for you.

9. Pietro

Looking for a date-friendly place? Pietro is a fine dining eatery which is just a stone’s throw from the Semantan MRT station. If you’re looking for an intimate space for a celebration, Pietro also makes for a good spot to host a private party for up to 250 guests.

10. Levain Boulangerie Pâtisserie

Besides their wide array of bread and desserts, did you know that Levain Boulangerie Pâtisserie also serves up main meals (mostly Western cuisine)? Levain’s specialty is their Creamy Beef Bacon Spaghetti which is big enough to be shared among 2 people, with some pastries as an after-meal dessert.

11. Spasso Milano

This Italian restaurant in Cheras has the appeal of a fine dining restaurant, complete with tables decked out in crisp white table cloths—but without the hefty price tag. Spasso Milano’s dishes are hearty and filling and meant for sharing. You can opt to order up a pizza or some pasta with some sides to share amongst 2 or more people, so you’ll have a chance to try out more of the restaurant’s specialties, including the Pork and Potato Spezzatino.

12. Tosaya

Tosaya is located along a row of hawker stalls and you’re bound to notice this Japanese restaurant, even from a distance. However, it’s important to note that Tosaya is not the place to go to if you’re looking for larger servings of Japanese dishes. It’s more of a place where you can enjoy authentic Japanese fare which may be in smaller servings but is still packed with flavours, which then justifies its price point.

13. L’esprezzo, Cheras Sentral Mall

Cup a warm mug of coffee in your hands at L’esprezzo whilst you tuck into some artisanal sandwiches and pastries. L’esprezzo’s coffee is on the premium end and they are made up of a blend of Brazilian and Colombian beans. For something a little different, opt for the Cube60c, which is basically frozen cubes of espresso coffee paired with some hot milk.

14. Kedai Pakistan, Batu 9

Pakistani food is not commonly found and it’s perhaps not the first thing that one thinks of when they voice out the question of “What to eat?” Take advantage of having Pakistani food just a short 5 minutes away from the Sri Raya station and dig into some authentic Pakistani cuisine at the aptly named Kedai Pakistani, Batu 9.

What To Eat: Roti w/ Beef Patty and Mint Sauce

15. Sate Kajang Haji Samuri

You’re looking at the OG satay Kajang right here. Yes, the queues are long at Sate Kajang Haji Samuri but it’s well worth the wait for a plateful of grilled satay. The satays at Sate Kajang are served with some ketupat or nasi impit and you can opt for proteins like chicken, fish and even rabbit meat.
