If you’ve had your fair share of desserts from Malaysian bakers, you might have come across Keik By Li San. The home kitchen bakery owned by Li San is well-known within the baking community for its delectable treats, from cakes to cupcakes and brownies.

However, after 2.5 years of baking, Li San will no longer be taking any more orders. She recently announced this through a status update on Facebook which received plenty of well wishes along with equal dashes of sadness.

“How to get my gula melaka cheesecake fix now?” one Facebook user commented, with cry-face emojis.

The reason that Keik By Li San will no longer be taking orders is due to an egg allergy that Li San has. The baker developed an egg allergy due to contact overexposure with the protein. In spite of it, she struggled through, thinking to herself, “To heck with it, I’m just going to have to bake with gloves 24/7!” However, as her allergies worsened, Li San decided that perhaps it was time to hang up her apron for good.

Through a blog post, she explained, “Some of you might know this, some might not, I have an egg allergy. It developed when I was in baking school, though not diagnosed until only recently. I tried soldiering on, but as business got better things only got worse. For whatever reason the universe decided to bestow this upon me, the allergies were worse with contact instead of ingestion.”

After lots of pondering, she decided that it was best that she focused on bettering her health and staying the heck away from eggs.

Although Li San will no longer be baking, she hasn’t given up on her love for cakes just yet. “I am smitten and not ready to let go of this yet, if ever. So my Instagram account will still exist, and so will this blog, for the sole purpose of sharing recipes and tutorial videos with you dessert lovers,” she noted.

Though we’ll definitely miss her lovely treats, Discover KL wishes Li San all the best on her future endeavours!
