A bus driver who was traveling to Muar was recently filmed by a fellow passenger when he was caught smoking and using his phone while driving. The social media user who posted the viral video on Facebook is Firdaus Wong Wai Hung. He captioned his post with:

“Perhaps this is the reason why road accidents occur. Smoking and reading as well as replying text messages while driving. Not all drivers would act this way. Hence don’t let a single speck ruin an entire pot of otherwise good milk. This footage was taken while I was in a Mayang Sari bus. The bus’ number plate is JRU 7400. I was traveling from TBS to Muar.”

Firdaus had also posted a follow-up comment stating: “Plenty have commented here (on this Facebook post) asking me why did I not tell the driver off? If you were in my place at that moment in time, how would you have known that nobody else had already earlier complained?

This is considered humiliating another person, so I really hope you understand what you are commenting about. To ruin another person’s rice bowl is one thing. What about endangering the lives of others on board the bus? If my footage of this scene is considered ruining another person’s rice bowl, then what about the hotline where one can call in to place a complain should a driver be operating his or her vehicle recklessly?”

Firdaus also later texted a complaint in to the hotline of the bus company and he received a message of apology and reassurance that further action will be taken.

The video that Firdaus posted has since gone viral and netizens shared their two cents worth on the issue at hand.

A fellow netizen noted: “Whether one is driving a bus, car, lorry or motorbike, most of us are always on our phone 24/7. If we notice another motorist on his phone, we should horn loudly to alert them too.”

Another Facebook user pointed out: “I agree with what you have done. We all need to change to avoid any unwanted incidents. Perhaps this is the best way to do it and it can be a warning for the bus driver to change his ways. That way, he would avoid repeating it in the future too.”
