Damansara Kim is this small neighbourhood that is a little tad bit awkward. They may be  really small (some would group them together with Damansara Utama) but their food scene is definitely buzzing. From Thai to Japanese, bakery to New Zealand inspired ice creams… Don’t call yourself a foodie if you’ve not tried any of these.

1. Kompassion Thai Fusion Food

If you, like me, have a compassion towards Thai fusion cuisine, Kompassion is the place to be. Helmed by Chef Nikom Uatthong, former food consultant and executive chef at the always super crowded My Elephant, dishes served at Kompassion are a feast to the eyes and taste buds. I highly recommend the Double Cooked Pork Belly and Soft Shell Crab with Cucumber Salad, Green Curry, and Pad Thai with Prawn. Price is a little steep and their dishes are best for sharing.  The place can get really crowded during dinner time so best to call and reserve for a table before dining here.

2. Ori-Ya Sanuki Udon

On days where you’re feeling simple is more, a bowl of piping hot Udon will do the trick. Ori Ya had its first successful outlet in The Gardens Mall. When they open their doors at Damansara Kim, I was so glad that I don’t have to brave the KL traffic for their signature al dente chewy Sanuki Udon. And the best part? The one at Damansara Kim has a local twist – Chilli Bean Pork Udon (I heard its a crowd favourite) and Curry Vegetable Udon. In a nut shell, Ori Ya is simple, delicious and affordable (a bowl of Udon from as low as RM6.0o). Do note that the KL outlet is pork free while the one in Damansara Kim is non-halal.

3. The Kitchen Table Restaurant & Bakery

The Kitchen Table is hands down, one of the most welcoming restaurant in Damansara Kim. A firm believer of good food and great company comes hand in hand, the peeps at The Kitchen Table sure whips out some of the most yummy mains and pastries from their kitchen table. My absolute must-try here includes carrot pineapple cake, buttermilk pancakes, sourdough bread and chocolate chips cookie.. yes cookies! Want to impress a girl? Bring her here for a brunch date! But do make reservations because the weekend brunch crowd is definitely not to be under estimated.

4. The Locker & Loft

The Locker & Loft is literally Damansara Kim’s best kept secret- there are no signages leading to this speakeasy-style bar and the entrance is pretty much camouflaged behind rusty lockers. If you’re super thirsty from finding this place, their house special Kelapa Rock (cocktail) will help you rehydrate while you ‘dehydrate’. If coconut is not your thing, give the Kg Pandon Don or The Yellow Sub a try. This place is great for chilling with your friends and they also serves noms here if you’re hungry.

5. Fish & Noodle House

There are a few restaurants serving Fish Head noodles in Damansara Kim but Fish & Noodle House here offers something different. On top of their signature Fish Head noods, the Pan Fried Salmon Fillet Noodles is a big hit among diners. The salmon fillet is not only boneless but also tender and doesn’t have that fishy taste. And the soup? So comforting that it works really well as a pick-up on days when you’re feeling a little low. This place can get really hectic during lunch hours so you might want to be here early (or a bit later) to avoid the crowd.

6. IDC

IDC (Ice Dreams Cafe or Ice Cream, Desserts & Coffee) is that dessert place that will make you say “idc (I don’t care) about my diet”. Serving Kapiti’s range of ice cream with really funky flavours, IDC is not your usual ice cream parlour where you go for your classic vanilla or chocolate ice cream. Even their affogato comes with a twist – instead of coffee, the ice cream is topped with something else like sea salt flakes, salted egg yoke or even extra virgin olive oil. It might sound a little intimidating but trust me, they know what they’re doing!
